The Independent starts on Victorian screens

[Mon 11/08/2008 12:23:13]

By Simon de Bruyn

The first feature from Melbourne-based Apocalypse Films, political satire The Independent, has started screening at various locations in Melbourne and rural Victoria.

The Independent follows Marty Browning (Lee Mason) a naïve and idealistic Independent politician, who finds himself at the centre of both media and public attention in a balance of power election.

Written and directed by Andrew O'Keefe and John Studley, and produced by Jim Xyga, this self-financed political comedy is also being independently distributed by the team.

The film screened at the 2007 Melbourne International Film Festival and garnered strong reviews from various film critics including At The Movies’ Margaret Pomeranz and David Stratton. Their reviews of the film can be read here.

The Independent screens at Melbourne's Palace Westgarth in Northcote tonight at 7pm; and the Eaglehawk Star Cinema (near Bendigo) August 22-29.

The film enjoyed an earlier run at Castlemaine's Royal Theatre from August 1-8.
