The film, based on Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and distributed by Sony Pictures, raked in $2.6 million across 285 screens in its first weekend, with a screen average of $9431.

Bruce Willis’ latest Red came in second with $1.7 million in its opening weekend across 223 screens.

Life As We Know It, which had funding from Village Roadshow, dropped down to fourth spot, making $1.2 million.

As far as Australian flicks go, Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole made $99,755 and has now made a less-than-expected $4,485,645. In the US, it's made $US52.6 million.

Local teen action film Tomorrow, When The War Began – directed by Stuart Beattie – made $53,701 across 47 screens on the weekend and has now raked in $13,361,614 Down Under, however it still hasn't got a US distributor.

In its second weekend, Summer Coda made $36,498 across 24 screens while Australia/French co-production The Tree made $7,913 from nine screens.

Meanwhile Pinnacle Films' Road Train slipped from seven screens to only two, making $2413.

Sean Bryne's twisted tale The Loved Ones opens this Thursday.
