Former Neighbours actor to star in Jolie movie
Jordan Patrick Smith is set to join the growing list of actors who have graduated from Neighbours and Home and Away to the international stage.
He’s in advanced negotiations to play a supporting role in Angelina Jolie’s drama Unbroken, which starts shooting in NSW and Queensland on October 21. Smith will play Cliff, an Australian prisoner who’s interned in a Japanese POW camp in WW2, according to Deadline.com.
The Universal-financed film follows former US Olympic athlete Louis Zamperini (Jack O’Connell) as his US air force plane is shot down over the Pacific. After 47 days on a life raft he is captured by the Japanese. The cast includes Domhnall Gleeson, Garrett Hedlund and Alex Russell.
Smith spent three years on Neighbours and one year on Home and Away. After finishing on the soap last December he went to the US and signed with Untitled Entertainment. He’s represented in Australia by Aran Michael Management. Smith recently moved to Los Angeles.
Michael’s roster includes a bunch of actors who found success in the US after being regulars on Neighbours. They include Margot Robbie, who stars with Domhnall Gleeson, Rachel McAdams and Bill Nighy in Richard Curtis’ dramedy About Time; and in Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street with Leonardo DiCaprio, Jonah Hill and Matthew McConaughey.
Pippa Black starred this year in the US TV series Perception and Royal Pains after guest roles last year in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.
For another client, Brett Tucker, Neighbours was a stepping stone to a recurring role in the US TV series Mistresses after earlier working on McLeod’s Daughters, The Saddle Club and Blue Heelers.
