Hugh Jackman wins Golden Globe for Les Miserables

Australian actor Hugh Jackman has walked away with the Golden Globe award for best actor in a comedy or musical for his performance in Les Misérables.

The award is another positive for Jackman ahead of the Oscars on February 24, where he is also nominated for best actor, although Daniel Day-Lewis remains the favourite (he won in the Golden Globes drama category for his performance in Lincoln). It is Jackman's first Golden Globe win and comes a decade after his first nomination for the romantic comedy Kate & Leopold.

The other nominees in the Golden Globe's best actor in a comedy or musical category were Bradley Cooper (Silver Linings Playbook) Jack Black (Bernie), Ewan McGregor (Salmon Fishing In The Yemen) and Bill Murray (Hyde Park on Hudson).

Naomi Watts missed out on best actress in a drama for her performance in tsunami film The Impossible to Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty). 

Nicole Kidman missed out on an award after being nominated twice for her performances in The Paperboy and TV movie Hemingway & Gellhorn. Kidman’s husband Keith Urban also missed out on Best Original Song – Motion Picture for his song with Monty Powell, For You (featured in the film Act of Valor).
