IMAX Darling Harbour sets record with The Dark Knight Rises pre-sales

Press release from IMAX Sydney

IMAX Darling Harbour has smashed its record for the highest number of pre-sold tickets with sessions for THE DARK KNIGHT RISES heavily booked weeks in advance including many already sold out.

Over 7,000 tickets across 24 sessions have already been sold for the final film in the Batman franchise and with only one week until release, THE DARK KNIGHT RISES has already cemented its success at the home of the world’s largest cinema screen.

IMAX CEO Mark Bretherton said “Due to public demand we took the unprecedented step of opening ticket sales four weeks before release date, and fans clearly can’t get enough of this film. The demand for pre-sale tickets even caused our website to overload and shut down briefly on the opening day”.

Filmed with IMAX cameras and featuring over one hour of giant screen IMAX footage where specially shot scenes expand to fill the full height of the IMAX screen for maximum visual impact, THE DARK KNIGHT RISES is expected to be the IMAX event of the year and fans are flocking to see the film on the world’s largest screen.

Director Chris Nolan states "Our experience on THE DARK KNIGHT shooting and projecting IMAX 15 perf 65mm/70mm film was inspiring. The immersive quality of the image goes beyond any other filmmaking tool available, and in revisiting Gotham, we were determined to shoot even more of the movie in this unique format”.
THE DARK KNIGHT RISES will star Christian Bale (THE DARK KNIGHT, BATMAN BEGINS, AMERICAN PSYCHO), Tom Hardy (TINKER TAILOR SOLDIER SPY, INCEPTION), Liam Neeson (BATTLESHIP, TAKEN, WRATH OF THE TITANS) and Anne Hathaway (THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA, LOVE AND OTHER DRUGS) and is directed by Christopher Nolan (THE DARK KNIGHT, INCEPTION).

THE DARK KNIGHT RISES opens at IMAX Darling Harbour on 19th July, 2012 with a special midnight screening commencing at 12:01am. Tickets are currently on sale at www.IMAX.com.au and fans are encouraged to pre-purchase tickets to avoid disappointment.
