Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries second series begins Melbourne shoot

18 February, 2013 by Brendan Swift

The second series of ABC1’s Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries begins shooting in Melbourne this week.

The 13-part series stars Essie Davis (The Slap, cloudstreet) as detective Phryne Fisher alongside Ashleigh Cummings (Puberty Blues, Dance Academy), Nathan Page (Paper Giants: The Birth of Cleo, Redfern Now), Hugo Johnstone-Burt (Rake, cloudstreet), Miriam Margolyes (Harry Potter The Chamber of Secrets), Tammy MacIntosh (Crownies, East West 101), Travis McMahon (Howzat! Kerry Packer’s War), Anthony Sharpe (City Homicide), and Richard Bligh (The Mystery of a Hansom Cab).

Davis' performance in the first series was recently recognised with an AACTA nomination for Best Lead Actress in a Television Drama.

The second series of Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries is based on a number of Kerry Greenwood’s Phryne stories: the Dead Man’s Chest and Unnatural Habits novels, and various short stories; as well as new crimes from the creators of series one.

The series has been bought by 120 territories worldwide including Europe, Canada, USA, Asia and Latin America, according to the ABC.

Production company Every Cloud Productions said Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries had been picked up by European broadcaster France 3, as well as TV Norge Norway, Knowledge Network Canada and Canal+ Poland. UKTV has renewed the series for Alibi in the UK and Eire while DVD distributor Acorn Media has picked up DVD/video rights for the whole series in the UK, Eire and United States of America.

Love this series – and differently all the actors. Watch it on TV and I have the first series on DVD. This is the only show, I work until 8pm, that I rush home to watch. Keep up the good work, fantastic viewing. All the actors are fantastic but Essie Davis is absolutely incredible. Australia be very proud of this series.

LOVE this series. I’m in the USA, and I can’t wait for the next series to come out on Netflix!!! Acting, script, costumes, and everything are excellent!!! This is how real murder mysteries are done. Much better than all the gruesome cop shows that are popular here.

And hope Netflix carries it This is such a different sort of story, rather corny, but fun. Thanks

Have thoroughly enjoyed this series. Nice to see Season #1 on Netflix. I am looking forward to Season #2 showing in the States. A campy & fun series that reminds me (in some ways) of Miss Bradley Mysteries. Acting was excellent. Good scripts. Australia has once more produced a wonderful gem!! Love those 20’s & 30’s costumes. I love those beautiful hats. Such a gifted & talented Costume Dept!

This is one of the best series I have seen in a long time! Everything about this show is great, actors/actress, costumes are fab. Love, love this time period. Essie Davis is “the cat’s meow”!

I found this series on Netflix (USA) and want to see more! I want to see Phyne and Jack finally “get together”. I have grown to love all the characters and their relationships.

Please, Please, keep this series going, and more importantly Netflix needs to keep this on their site. It’s a winner!
