Obese Records to Distibute Hunter: For The Record Documentary

PRESS RELEASE

Periscope Pictures announced today that it had signed an agreement with Obese Records for the Australian distribution of its award winning music documentary Hunter: For The Record.

The 90-minute film chronicles the life of hip-hop pioneer Robert Hunter in the moments before his death from cancer in 2011. It is a raw tale of redemption and fatherhood, musical fanaticism and courage in the face of adversity.

According to Obese Records Operations Manager, Fern Greig-Moore, the company is very proud to be managing the film’s local distribution.

“Hunter was a friend of the label and to many of the artists and industry figures we work alongside.”

“His legacy has been captured by this remarkable film; thanks to its makers and everyone involved, his story will be told well into the future,” said Greig-Moore.

Hunter: For The Record won Best Feature Film (Factual) at the recent WA Screen Academy Awards and was also nominated for Best Direction (Long Form). It made its festival debut at the 2013 Revelation Perth International Film Festival and has also screened at the Australian Centre for the
Moving Image and the CinefestOz Film Festival.

Producer Alice Ross says the distribution deal was a smart decision by the team.

“Obese have distributed all of Hunter's albums in the past as well as his upcoming album, so when the opportunity presented itself, it seemed like an obvious choice.”

Ross went on to say the film's reception by the hip-hop industry and community has been remarkable.

“The response so far from the screenings has been overwhelmingly positive, not just from hip hop fans but also from respected film industry members.”

“For anyone who knew Hunter or his music – or is into Aussie hip hop and its origins – this film will have you laughing, crying, reminiscing and will leave you with a renewed lust for life,” said Ross.

Hunter: For The Record features footage recorded by Hunter himself; interviews with Australian hip hop royalty including the Hilltop Hoods, Drapht, Urthboy, Optamus and Dazastah (Downsyde); as well as previously unseen interviews. DVD also contains bonus material and an audio commentary
from SBX crew members and Hunter’s family.

In conjunction with the DVD release, Obese is releasing Hunter’s final, funky and surprisingly soulful album Bring it All Back.

“These are the last musical/lyrical ponderings of Hunter, which reminiscently echo the old school, hip-hop sound,” said Grieg-Moore.

“Bring it all Back continues the legacy for Hunter’s son Marley with the tracks offering heartfelt and breaking perspective into Rob’s last musical moments”.

DVDs and Blu-Rays are currently available to pre-order through Periscope Pictures’ website (www.periscopepictures.com.au) with part proceeds going towards the Cancer Council of WA – a request by Hunter’s family who utilised the organisation’s services during his illness.

Both the album and DVD will also be available from all good retailers.
