Refugee superhero film ‘Silent Man’ enters pre-production

Silent Man.

Indie studio Space Tourist Films has gone into pre-production on thriller Silent Man.

The short, written and directed by Joseph Russell (No Way San Jose, Queen of the Bees, Jeff VS the Left) follows the journey of an escaped asylum seeker turned vigilante on a mission to find his daughter after she disappears from an immigration detention center.

Cast includes George Iskander, Clare Pickering and Mick Shanahan. Shooting is slated to commence in mid-December in Melbourne with hopes to release by May 2017.

Russell said he hopes the film will draw attention to the plight of asylum seekers in an original and entertaining way.

“It’s easy for people to tune out when they hear story after story about refugees in the news. It’s not so easy to tune out watching a superhero movie,” he said.

The filmmakers are running an Indiegogo campaign to raise funds for the project: www.igg.me/at/silentman.

  1. I hope people support this and other campaigns. I put money into this and wish Joseph Russell success. Recently I was collecting funds with George Iskander for the Victorian Actors Benevolent Fund. One of the actors in this film Adam La Rosa put money into a campaign I was running for a feature called The Incredible Chronicles of Mr Pasqual, thankfully we made target just in the dying moments due to people like Adam.

If you are broke but can afford $1 put it in. Many hands make light work.If you are on a project whether you are cast or crew then you should be sharing the campaign on all social media.

The Indie industry struggles. It is often a mindset of- why should I support a project I am not in? Its so wrong. It should be a collaborative effort. Good luck, looking forward to seeing this.
