Star Wars: Episode 1 – The Phantom Menace 3D trailer

George Lucas' epic film Star Wars: Episode 1 – The Phantom Menace is coming back to the big screen. This time in 3D.

The 1999 sci-fi flick, the first of a three-part prequel to the original trilogy, stars Liam Neeson, Ewan McGregor, Natalie Portman, Jake Lloyd, Ian McDiarmid, Pernilla August, Ahmed Best, Anthony Daniels, Ray Park, Kenny Baker and Frank Oz.

Industrial Light & Magic – founded by Lucas in 1975 – supervised the 3D conversion.

The film grossed $38.8 million in Australia and raked in $9.1 million in its opening weekend. Worldwide it's taken $US924 million.

The re-release, distributed by Fox, opens in Australia on February 9.
