ABC appoints head of fiction

Carole Sklan has today been appointed to the newly-created role of ABC TV Head of Fiction.

As part of the new ABC TV operational structure, this role covers both drama and narrative comedy. The Head of Fiction will be responsible for acquiring and commissioning a challenging, diverse and entertaining slate of adult fiction programs, which engage the audience across ABC1, ABC2 and ABC Multiplatform.

Carole will take up her new Melbourne-based position as Head of Fiction immediately.

Carole is currently Commissioning Editor for ABC TV Drama based in Melbourne, and has been in this position for 12 months.

Prior to this, she was a Commissioning Editor at SBS for three years where she was responsible for commissioning the development and production of the highly-acclaimed AFI and Logie award-winning drama series East West 101 (seasons 1 and 2); the Logie award-winning telemovie Saved; Carla Cametti PD; the second season of the comedy Wilfred; the comedy shorts series Marx and Venus and the feature films Mary and Max and Noise.

Carole was Director of Film Development at the Australia Film Commission between 2001 and 2005 and was responsible for the development and production investment in a range of exciting and award-winning film and TV projects.

Between 1996 to 2001, Carole worked as an ABC TV Deputy Commissioning Editor and Executive Producer for ABC TV Drama and contributed to the development of projects such as Seachange, Something in the Air and Simone De Beauvoir’s Babies.
