ABC names new head of factual

Cordell Jigsaw Zapruder’s Steve Bibb is joining the ABC next month as head of factual.

Bibb, who starts on January 19, succeeds Phil Craig, who is returning to the UK to take up the new role of chief creative officer for Discovery Networks International.

The executive producer of factual at CJZ, Bibb joined Cordell Jigsaw Productions in 2010 which became CJZ after the merger with Zapruder’s Other Films.

ABC head of content and creative development Adrian Swift said, “Steve Bibb is a superb story teller and comes to the role with a background in news, documentary and blue chip factual series. But most of all, he can tell a story that connects with audiences.”

Bibb’s production credits include Great Southern Land and Two Men in China for the ABC, Hardliners and MegaTruckers for the A&E channels and true crime series Wanted for Network Ten.

He spent nearly a decade as a Nine Network producer and executive producer after working as a journo for Fairfax in Sydney, News Limited and News International in London.

He co-authored with Bronte Cullis the book  Bronte’s Story, which recounted the Melbourne teenager's battle with anorexia nervosa, a spin-off of three documentaries he produced on her journey.

Bibb said, “To be offered the role of head of factual at the ABC is a rare honour – a privilege – and it is truly exciting to be a part of a first class creative team at the national broadcaster.”
