Actress Matilda Brown to judge SA festival

The Media Resource Centre (MRC) are delighted to announce the launch of their Tropfest Production Initiative for 2012 and are pleased to confirm that award-winning actor and director, Matilda Brown will be part of the judging panel.

Matilda Brown, daughter of Australian acting legend Bryan Brown and actress/director Rachel Ward, launched her career in the film industry at 15 years of age starring in the 2003 AFI award winning short feature Martha's New Coat directed by her mother.

Matilda completed a degree in Film and Television Production at Swinburne Uni followed by an Advanced Diploma in Screenwriting at the RMIT. She has since continued to work both in front of and behind the camera. As an actor she has appeared in some of Australia's most successful television shows including Offspring, My Place and in short films including Bee Sting, and most recently Cocks.

As a filmmaker, Matilda wrote, directed and stared in the film How God Works, which was a Tropfest finalist in 2010. Matilda has now signed on as a freelance director for acclaimed advertising guru David Gaddie's The Colony whilst pursuing her acting career, recently starring in Underbelly: The Golden Mile (2010)

The MRC Tropfest initiative aims to assist SA filmmakers develop and produce an engaging, entertaining short specifically for entry into the 2012 Movie Extra Tropfest film festival. The MRC has helped support previous Tropfest finalists and award-winning films such as Caught in a Loop, Jackie’s Spring Palace, Baboons and last year’s finalist Sumo Lake.

MRC’s director Gail Kovatseff said, “We are delighted to have a juror of Matilda’s savvy on board our Tropfest selection committee this year. We look forward to hopefully supporting another SA Tropfest finalist this year.”

This year the MRC, in conjunction with the SAFC, will select up to TWO projects/teams to be greenlit for $15,000 cash investment (including $5,000 in-kind equipment/facilities hire from MRC) Scripts can be in any genre, seven pages or less (including credits!!) and must include this year’s Tropfest Signature Item (or TSI), which is ‘LIGHTBULB’ for 2012.

The MRC and the City of Holdfast Bay will present the SA screening of Tropfest at the Bay
on Sunday 19th of February 2012. This is a FREE event.
