The BigPond Adelaide Film Festival is calling for applications from Australian artists and filmmakers to participate in a new initiative called THE HIVE – a ground-breaking 5 day residential lab.
Held within the 2011 BigPond Adelaide Film Festival (BAFF), THE HIVE brings together 20 talented artists from film, literature, performing and visual arts, and encourages art form cross-pollination – between practitioners, and between processes and creative approaches.
Led by San Francisco-based BAVC Producers’ Institute Wendy Levy, along with a team of brilliant mentors, from a number of disciplines, THE HIVE introduces filmmakers to creative development methodologies and potential collaborators from other art forms and inspires artists from other genres to conquer film as a creative outlet.
“Since our inception, BAFF has explored the way the moving image has been used by practitioners across a range of disciplines in cinemas, in galleries, in performance and on the many screens that pervade our lives”, said BAFF Director, Katrina Sedgwick. “In THE HIVE we hope to bring inspiration to filmmakers and artists as they discover each other’s approaches to creating new work across the art forms. We can’t wait to see what kind of conversations – and what film projects – emerge from this 5 day frenzy of ideas.”

THE HIVE is seeking applications from individual Australian artists and filmmakers, already well established in their creative practice, who have an early stage film based project they wish to explore in the context of this lab. Participation is free and travel and accommodation will be provided for interstate participants.
