In a landmark 3 year deal struck with the NSW Government, the AFI is delighted to announce the Samsung Mobile AFI Awards will return to Sydney in 2011 for the next 3 years.

The move coincides with what is shaping up to be an exciting new decade for the Australian screen industry, and the AFI with the support of the NSW Government and AFI sponsors and partners, is looking forward to showcasing its premiere event in arguably one of the most beautiful cities in the world – Sydney.

The AFI thanks the strategic vision and commitment of the NSW Government through Screen NSW and Events NSW for its continued support of Australian screen culture and now as principal Government sponsor of the 2011 Samsung Mobile AFI Awards.

AFI Ambassador Cate Blanchett said of this exciting development, "for decades the Australian screen industry has produced productions, practitioners and performers of the highest order.  The recognition of outstanding achievement that is acknowledged through the AFI Awards is more important than ever and I applaud the contemporary vision of the AFI to continue to evolve our preeminent award event."

Chairman of the AFI Board, Morry Schwartz, said today “We are very excited to be moving to Sydney in 2011. Sydney is truly an international city and the AFI Board is thrilled to be working with the NSW Government to create a dynamic and world-class event”
