AFTRS to introduce a new BA in screen

PRESS RELEASE

AFTRS, Australia’s national screen arts and broadcast school, has announced that in 2015 it will offer a new three-year Bachelor of Arts in Screen. The BA will be the most in-depth and creatively comprehensive screen degree in the world.

Designed to prepare Australia’s next generation of creative practitioners to be the leaders in their respective fields, the degree will provide a deeply engaging learning experience that will develop critical thinking and creative engagement.

The new BA will prepare graduates to be nimble operators in a platform agnostic world. It fuses deep scholarly engagement with the art of storytelling. Two core subjects, ‘Story & Writing’ and ‘The History of Film’ run for three years as well as elective specialist subjects. Throughout the three-year program exciting opportunities for collaboration with other students are fundamental to the course.

Students will learn from teaching staff who are some of the best practitioners in the country in the best facilities in Australia.

The BA has been designed to ‘future-proof’ graduates for a changing and dynamic world post tertiary studies. AFTRS CEO, Sandra Levy said,
“Conceptually driven, the new BA in Screen is all about critical thinking, creative engagement and preparing those with the best minds to be future creative leaders in their fields”

“The ways stories are told is ever-changing, as platforms and technologies evolve and adapt, but the desire to tell a story is innate to the human condition. The BA in Screen embraces this duality as students are immersed in the world of storytelling, not limited by technology, and where adaptability, resilience and entrepreneurial skills will equip them with the right tools for a lifelong career.”

AFTRS constantly adapts its courses to stay at the forefront of industry needs and this recent evolution is part of that ongoing process.
All candidates for all AFTRS award courses will gain entry based on merits election process which includes the completion of course-specific tasks as well as evidence of their creative work.

AFTRS is holding a dedicated Bachelor of Arts (Screen) Information Day on June 28. The AFTRS 2014 Open Day will be held on September 6.
