Ana Kokkinos honoured at SIFF

Press release from CG Publicity

Acclaimed Australian director Ana Kokkinos is to be honoured as an emerging master at this year's Seattle International Film Festival, following in the footsteps of past honourees including Tom Tykwer (Run Lola Run), Michael Winterbottom (Welcome to Sarajevo) and Susanne Bier (Brothers, Open Hearts).

Each year, SIFF selects three up-and-coming directors that are destined to leave an impressive mark on cinema. Kokkinos is being recognized as a cinematic innovator, working in a fresh, original style and displaying the early marks of a master in her craft. The Seattle festival will screen HEAD ON as part of the program, as an early promising work, and BLESSED, as proof of her great filmmaking skill.

Kokkinos said on receiving the news, "This is a wonderful honour. I'm thrilled, particularly because the Seattle festival will screen both films. It's a terrific opportunity to engage with audiences and share the work. It is also a tribute to my many collaborators over the years; my producers, writers, cast and crew, funding bodies and distributors. Together, we've made films that are innovative, distinctive and have a unique perspective on who we are, while touching on universal themes and connecting with audiences around the world."

Kokkinos travels to Seattle this week to attend the Festival, which screens until June 13, 2010.
