Filming has begun around Sydney on Stan Original The Other Guy, starring and written by Matt Okine.
The 6 x half hour series joins Wolf Creek, No Activity and stand-up series One Night Stan in the Stan Originals stable.
Based on Okine's own experiences (previously explored in his stand-up show) The Other Guy is the story of a successful radio host who finds himself unexpectedly back in the dating pool for the first time in a decade after discovering his long-term girlfriend has been having an affair with his best friend.
Co-written by Becky Lucas (Please Like Me) and Greg Waters (Soul Mates), the series stars Harriet Dyer (No Activity), Valene Kane (Rogue One), Magda Szubanski (Babe), Christiaan van Vuuren (Bondi Hipsters) and Amali Golden (Australian Idol) in addition to Okine.
Kacie Anning (Fragments of Friday), described by Stan's Chief Content Officer Nick Forward as "undoubtedly one of the most talented young directors coming out of Australia,” will direct.
The producers are Aquarius Films and eOne, who will also distribute the series internationally. The show received production investment funding from Screen Australia in association with Create (formerly Screen) NSW and will premiere on Stan later this year.
"The Other Guy is an incredible career opportunity for exciting new talents Matt Okine and Kacie Anning to collaborate with this group of highly experienced producers and showcase their comedic voice on a premier platform," said Screen Australia Multiplatform Investment Manager Mike Cowap.
"For our third partnership with Stan on a piece of original Australian content, we couldn’t be prouder to support this show."
Producers are Angie Fielder, Polly Staniford and Cecilia Ritchie from Aquarius Films. eOne's ANZ EVP of TV Development and Acquisitions Jude Troy will executive produce.
