Austar’s Shane O’Neill resigns due to ill health; Bernie Dvorak takes over

The board of Austar United Communications today announced the resignation of director Mr Shane O'Neill due to ill health, after serving on the AUSTAR board for over 5  years.

AUSTAR CEO Mr John Porter said: "During his years as a director, Shane O'Neill has provided valuable guidance to both the Board and the senior management team. On behalf of the AUSTAR family, I want to thank Shane for all his support, and send all of our best wishes to Shane and his family".

Mr O'Neill was most recently Chief Strategy Officer with Liberty Global, Inc. overseeing the company's strategic planning, mergers and acquisitions and corporate development activities. Mr O'Neill was also President of Chellomedia, Liberty Global's content division and is responsible for LGI Ventures, the group's investment arm.

Mr O'Neill will be replaced by Mr Bernie Dvorak, who will begin his appointment immediately.

Mr Porter said: "We welcome Bernie to the Board. Our focus in the immediate future is to finalise the transaction with FOXTEL, and Bernie's experience is ideal in the circumstances to help make this happen".

Mr Dvorak is Senior Vice President and Co-Chief Financial Officer of Liberty Global, Inc. Mr Dvorak is an executive officer of Liberty Global and sits on the company's Executive Management Committee. Mr Dvorak is also a Director of Telenet Group Holding NV, a Liberty Global subsidiary, and a Belgium public limited liability company.
