Australian drama gets 21 million views

Australia’s most watched drama series is attracting audiences not on free-to-air or subscription television, but on the web.

The Horizon achieved twenty-one million hits collectively on YouTube this week, hot on the heels of its Series 4 launch in West Hollywood last week. Series 3 received 4 awards at the 2014 LA Webfest, including Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Writing in a Drama Series and two Outstanding Lead Actor Awards. Inside Film has previously described The Horizon as ‘one of the Australian film industry’s best kept secrets.’ The Series is growing by 40,000 – 60,000 views daily.

The Horizon explores the lives, loves and adventures of gay men living in Sydney, Australia. The series is produced and directed by former Packed to the Rafters writer Boaz Stark, and is backed by Producers Brian Cobb and Jacob Inglis and Executive Producers Tania Chambers and Rob Cannella.

“It is highly rewarding interacting with our fan base through our social media; seeing how involved they are with our characters and their experiences. We’ve named our fans “The Horizontals” and they are inspiring me to explore more exciting, never-before-seen stories in seasons 5 & 6.” says Stark.

Series 4 features a number of Australian stars including Belinda Giblin and Barry Quin with cameos from Gretel Killeen and Jonny Pasvolsky as a vivacious nurse and a caring Priest.

With the writing of seasons 5 & 6 almost complete, The Horizon team are now calling on ‘The Horizontals’ to become involved.

“We have found some great ways for people to be involved with The Horizon Series 5 and 6, through pledges towards the production costs, which will then enable us to offer various opportunities like a walk on role or name your own character, as well as executive producer titles to those wanting to pledge” said Producer, Brian Cobb.

Pledges can be made from $100 offering fantastic opportunities at every level.
