Australian horror film The Tunnel to play at Screamfest in LA

Press release from Adele Feletto

Australian horror film, The Tunnel is set to thrill crowds in LA this month with a theatrical screening and exclusive Q&A session with Director, Carlo Ledesma and Co-Producers/Writers, Enzo Tedeschi and Julian Harvey at the annual Screamfest event.

Billed as the largest horror film festival globally, Screamfest audiences will be in for some serious screams at The Tunnel US premiere screening on October 15, 2011 at 5pm at Mann’s Chinese Theater, 6801 Hollywood Blvd, Hollywood.

With an all-Australian cast, The Tunnel has just been confirmed for a US DVD release on December 27, 2011 through Blackrock Films and will undoubtedly become a must see horror over the holiday season for American audiences.

“It is an exciting time for The Tunnel as we break into the US market. We expect a great reaction to our little Aussie movie at Screamfest and are thrilled American horror fans will have the opportunity to own our film when it comes out on DVD in December” said Enzo Tedeschi, Co-Producer/Writer.

Directed by Philippines born, Carlo Ledesma, The Tunnel first came to the attention of worldwide media based on its unique crowd-funding and distribution models – the movie’s producers launched the movie’s website, www.thetunnelmovie.net, with an innovative plan to raise the movie’s cash budget of $135,000 by selling a frame of the movie for $1 to the internet audience (the concept is based on a 90-minute film consisting of 135,000 individual frames) and releasing the film for free, online.

The film has enjoyed simultaneous release across DVD as a 2-disc deluxe-edition (Australia), a PAY-TV broadcast (Australia) and an exclusive theatrical run in Australia as well its digital release on earlier this year on May 18, 2011. The Tunnel also made Australian movie history becoming the only domestic film to be available for download on the iPad platform.

About The Tunnel

The Tunnel is set amidst abandoned underground train tunnels beneath Sydney's CBD. In 2008, chasing rumours of a government cover-up and urban legends surrounding the sudden back-flip, investigative journalist Natasha Warner led a crew of four into the underground labyrinth.

They went down into the tunnels looking for a story – until the story found them.

The Tunnel chronicles their harrowing ordeal. With unprecedented access to the recently declassified tapes the crew shot in the claustrophobic subway tunnels, as well as a series of candid interviews with the survivors, viewers come face to face with the terrifying truth. This never before seen footage takes viewers deep inside the tunnels bringing the darkness to life and capturing the raw fear that threatens to tear the crew apart, leaving each one of them fighting for their lives.
