Australian Screen Editors Announce 2013 ‘Ellie’ Award Nominees

PRESS RELEASE

The Australian Screen Editors' (ASE) Guild is dedicated to the pursuit and recognition of excellence in screen editing across all its forms. It aims to
highlight the often invisible art of editing to the public while supporting the people who construct our screen narratives frame by frame.

The culmination of the Guild’s year happens at the annual ASE Awards, nicknamed ‘The Ellies’ after the bronzed elephant statues awarded to
winners. The Awards recognise outstanding achievements in editing across all visual mediums, offering the industry and the public a chance to recognise productions whose storytelling has been expertly crafted by their editors.

“The Ellies is a wonderful celebration for the editing community to emerge from their darkened rooms, rubbing eyes, to appreciate and applaud the best works of this year. With ten award categories, a Lifetime Member and Accreditees to honour, these Editors may well have to face the bright sun (rise)“ says Jason Ballantine ASE, President of the ASE.

The eighth annual ASE Awards take place on Saturday 7th December 2013 at the Paddington RSL in Sydney.

Comedian Jean Kittson (The Big Gig) will host the gala awards ceremony. “A good editor is like a good personal trainer, they keep your performance
lean, taut and anxious, they stop your bad habits, they do not tolerate self indulgence. The principal role of an editor is to remind you that the film is not
all about you. One consolation is that they also keep directors in line.”
