Australian short film ‘Fun City’ selected for 66th Locarno Film Festival

Press Release

FUN CITY, is the only Australian short film selected as part of the ‘International Competition’ at the 66th Locarno Film Festival 2013. The festival takes part from 7th-17th August.

FUN CITY is a story about Alvy, a divorced fun park attendant, who when prevented from speaking with his son must choose between anger or change.
Director, Justin Olstein, is excited to be representing the film during the festival. Discussing his approach to the film he noted, “I wanted to invite rather than force the audience into the film’s emotional world. Working collaboratively with the actors was crucial in achieving character portrayals that are nuanced, clear but never overstated. This balance was also reflected in our approach to the cinematography, where the camera remains observational rather than intrusive.”

FUN CITY was supported by Screen Australia and Open Channel’s ‘Raw Nerve’ program. Justin’s previous short film, ADAM’S TALLIT was nominated for an AFI/AACTA in 2011. Producer, Matt Downey, previously co-produced the 2008 Cannes Film Festival Jury Prize winning short film JERRYCAN and also co-produced the IMAX documentary THE EARTH WINS, which is to be released at IMAX Melbourne Museum on August 29th.
