Calling producers of animation for children

Press Release

Creators of Australian animated projects for children are invited to apply to participate in the second Asian Animation Summit (AAS), held in Phuket, Thailand, 9-11 December. The AAS is an annual event held to showcase Asia’s strongest animated projects looking for investors and partners. AAS is designed to stimulate co-production and co-financing in the region. It is an initiative of Australia’s ABC TV and Screen Australia, Korea’s KOCCA and Malaysia’s MDeC. AAS is owned and produced by Kidscreen.

AAS will consist of three days of presentations of selected projects from Australia, Korea and Malaysia, as well as additional Asian regions to be announced. Projects will be presented by their creators and producers to invited broadcasters from Asia and elsewhere, potential co-producers and international distributors. The event will provide opportunities for meetings and general networking to facilitate project financing and regional connections.

Up to six projects will be selected from Australia and this call-out is aimed at commencing that process. Producers from the other participating countries should refer to the AAS website for further information.

Screen Australia, in conjunction with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, will offer travel grants of $3,000 per successful company. In addition, they will be offered two free registrations to AAS as well as access to reduced accommodation rates at the host hotel.

Projects must be animation projects that have either:
a letter of interest from an Australian broadcaster or distributor, or
a written finance commitment from an Australian broadcaster or distributor, as well as Asian region investment, totalling 15 per cent of the production budget.

Eligibility criteria are set out in the guidelines, and Screen Australia will select eligible Australian projects based on global market potential and quality.

Submission deadline is Friday 4 October 2013.

The guidelines and application form for Australian producers are available at www.screenaustralia.gov.au/AAS.
