Press release from Canon

Canon Australia announced that the ground-breaking EOS C300, the first model from the new Cinema EOS System, has been approved for HD broadcast use by the BBC in line with its stringent test criteria*. The approval allows both internal and external BBC production teams to use the EOS C300 for the production of a variety of programmes to be broadcast on the BBC’s range of HD channels. The EOS C300 is the third professional camcorder from Canon to be approved by the BBC since the start of 2011, joining the XF305 and XF300 Full HD camcorders, which were approved for use in January last year.

“The BBC’s approval of the EOS C300 is testament to the quality and versatility of the Cinema EOS system and indicative of the high regard it has already achieved in the broadcast and motion picture production arenas,” said Charles Montesin, Brand Manager – Professional Video, Canon Australia. “We had received tremendous interest in Australia following the launch last year and the since going on sale in January the figures we’re seeing have smashed all forecasts and redefined any assumptions we had made for this product in our market.”

The EOS C300/C300 PL Interchangeable-Lens Digital Video Camcorder

The Canon EOS C300/C300 PL is an all new digital video camcorder available in two models: the EOS C300, equipped with an EF lens mount for compatibility with the wide array of more than 60 lenses that make up Canon’s current interchangeable EF lens line-up; and the EOS C300 PL, offering a PL lens mount for use with industry-standard PL lenses. The camcorder features a Super 35 mm-equivalent approximately 8.29-megapixel CMOS sensor ideally suited for digital cinematography.

A landmark model for Canon, the EOS C300 merges Canon’s heritage in sensor and lens design to create a compact, versatile camera that offers exceptional image quality alongside the flexibility to shoot in a wide range of different situations.

The 4K Cinema Lens Line-up

Canon’s Cinema EOS System features seven new 4K EF Cinema Lens models: four zoom lenses covering a wide zoom range from 14.5 mm to 300 mm—two models each for EF and PL lens mounts—and three single-focal-length lenses for EF mounts. All seven new lenses deliver exceptional 4K (4096 x 2160 pixels) optical performance and offer compatibility with Super 35 mm-equivalent sensors. Additionally, the three single-focal-length lenses can be used with cameras equipped with 35 mm full-frame sensors.
