Cartoon Network launches $25K production incentive
Press release from Fran Lanigan
SPAA announced today the launch of a new initiative from Cartoon Network: SNAPTOONS Australia at this year's conference to be held from 16 to 19 November at the Hilton Hotel in Sydney.
SNAPTOONS Australia is designed to provide a leg up to local Aussie talent and offers local producers the chance to pitch for a $15,000 grant towards development of a pilot episode. Participants should submit proposals for production that target kids 5-12 years, focused on content delivered from an animated perspective. Concepts can be drawn from animation or live action, across both short and long-form offerings.
Michael Carrington, Chief Content Officer EMEA, Cartoon Network, commented: I am especially honoured to be invited to participate in the SNAPTOONS Australia initiative, connecting Cartoon Network with Australian producers to help create great content which will enrich the lives of our audiences.
Entries will be whittled down to the top 10 before being invited to pitch to Turner Executives during the SPAA Conference. The expert panel will comprise of Michael Carrington, Chief Content Officer EMEA, Robi Stanton, Executive Director, Australia and New Zealand and Rick Fernandes, Executive Director for Original Production.
Rick Fernandes, Executive Director for Original Production, added: Cartoon Network is genuinely excited about launching SNAPTOONS at SPAA 2010. Were hoping to uncover concepts that reflect the irreverent, innovative, cutting-edge style that our networks are renowned for.
Australian producers understand the dynamic Cartoon Network looks for, so this is our way of giving a helping hand to local producers wanting to break onto the global stage.
Two proposals will receive a $5,000 contribution from Cartoon Network to go on to develop their show bible. The winning bible will receive the SNAPTOONS Australia $15,000 grant towards production of a pilot episode.
Says SPAAs Deb McBride: Were thrilled to welcome Cartoon Networks SNAPTOONS Australia initiative to SPAA this year as part of our ongoing commitment to creating a credible TV environment at the conference. Its a real opportunity for local producers to showcase their talent and gain a foot in the door with one of the worlds biggest media organisations.
