Chandon Pictures commences production on series 2

[Press Release by Nix Co]

Movie Extra is delighted to announce filming of the second series of Chandon Pictures, commencing this Monday 13 October.

Following a highly acclaimed first series in 2007, Chandon Pictures will return to Australian television screens with a second series slated to premiere on Movie Extra early next year.

The comedy drama was originally commissioned by Movie Extra from Tropfest 2006 winners Rob Carlton and Alex Weinress, who had won that year with their mockumentary short, "Carmichael and Shane". Chandon Pictures captures the same offbeat humour as their winning short and the first series was extremely well received when it premiered exclusively
on Movie Extra last year.

Starring Rob Carlton in the lead role, Chandon Pictures Series 2 continues the comedic misadventures of wanna-be documentary filmmaker Tom Chandon and his struggling video production company. Tom’s portfolio doesn’t extend much beyond wedding videos, but he’s a dreamer and, shrouded in self-delusion, he manages to twist each client’s brief to
cater to his own documentary-making dreams.

Rebecca Massey (All Saints, Son of the Mask) returns as Tom’s pragmatic producer Lucy and Darren Gilshenan (Swinger, Dark City) as his loyal cameraman Nick. Charlie Garber (Lost Things, Ghost Rider) joins the cast in Series 2 as Tom’s younger cousin and business manager, Larraby Chandon.

"We couldn’t wait to get back on set with Series 2," Rob Carlton said. "Just like in Series 1, we’ve got a brilliant line-up of guest actors – we hope our scripts are up to their talents!"

Chandon Pictures has proven to be a major success story for Movie Extra with the announcement this year of an international distribution deal and format sales to Lionsgate, followed by a development deal with major US network Fox, who will produce a pilot for a US version of the show.

To date, Chandon Pictures has received an Australian Writers Guild (AWGIE) award and was nominated for an Australian Subscription Television and Radio Association (ASTRA) award as well as an Australian Director’s Guild (ADG) award.

Movie Extra Tropfest 2009 will be a launch-pad for the second series of Chandon Pictures with a sneak peek being featured at the festival during the day on 22 February 2009.
