Press release from ABC

Nearly 600,000 viewers in the U.K. tuned in to the first episode of Angry Boys when it premiered on BBC3 earlier this week.

Angry Boys launched in BBC3’s Tuesday night, 10.30pm comedy slot with a double episode. The first episode featuring twins Daniel and Nathan and their tough talking grandmother Gran, averaged 597,000 viewers, capturing a share of 4.2%. The share was highest among the 16-34 year-old demographic with 8.9%.

Following straight on, episode two introducing American rap sensation S.mouse, averaged 462,000 viewers, with a slightly higher audience share of 4.4%. Again, the share was highest among the 16-34 year-olds with 9.6%.

The solid audience figures are testament to Chris Lilley’s increasing global reach. By comparison, Summer Heights High U.K. debut on BBC3 in 2008 averaged 194,000 viewers. During its U.K. premiere, Angry Boys was once again the number one trending topic on Twitter around the world.
