Press release from Engine

Simon Robson's Coalition of the Willing announced as finalist and one of top five best animation films at 2010 VIMEO Awards.

Engine’s multi-award winning director and creative director Simon Robson (Knife Party) has been confirmed to speak at Sydney’s upcoming SPAA Fringe event on Collaborative Environmental Filmmaking and Crowd Sourcing specifically relating to his unique animated film Coalition of the Willing which he conceived, directed and produced under his Knife Party moniker. Coalition of the Willing also made headlines this week when it was announced as one of the finalists and top five best animation films, out of over 6500 entries, at the upcoming inaugural Vimeo Awards in New York.

Online video sharing site Vimeo, often referred to as the ‘creatives’ YouTube’ and the Vimeo Festival and Awards are a celebration of the best original and creative video that has premiered online. The goal of the Vimeo awards is to reward the individual creators behind online video and acknowledge the Internet as a quality medium of expression and distribution.

Simon Robson said, “It’s a great honour that Coalition of the Willing is one of the finalists at the Vimeo Festival and Awards. The competition is of an incredibly high standard and honestly, it’s humbling that we have made the top five. During SPAA Fringe I will be talking about how Coalition of the Willing was made, our unique crowd sourcing angle, staggered release schedule and how social networking has been such a significant part of the movie’s success.”

Coalition of the Willing involved over twenty of the best animation studios from all over the world preaching a pro-active environmental message using crowd creativity. Coalition of the Willing also makes up part of 2010's onedotzero festival, Soho Short Film Festival and Ottawa Film Festival programs.

Robson concluded, “The Vimeo Awards are open to anyone who has premiered their work on any online platform – hence the 6500+ entries. The festival will also highlight the best of online video in an exciting offline environment. It’s a great forum to discuss the message behind Coalition of the Willing and I’m delighted to be able to share what I’ve learned whilst making the movie with Sydney’s creative community at the SPAA Fringe too.”
