Curious Film’s Syd Garon nominated for an Emmy Award

Press release from Curious Films

Curious Film’s Syd Garon has been nominated for an Emmy Award under the category Outstanding Individual Achievement in a Craft: Graphic Design & Art Direction for his recent title design and animation on Superheroes, a HBO documentary directed by Michael Barnett.

Superheroes follows the lives of several everyday people as they dress up in costumes and fight real crime with varying levels of success. Influenced by the comic book genre, creating motion comics for the title design and reenactments seemed like a perfect fit, said Barnett.

“I ended up working with multiple artists, each one drawing in a unique comic style to illustrate the various characters’ back stories,” explains Garon. “The Superheroes documentary was a dream project to work on, a blast to animate with almost total creative freedom,” he adds.

Garon has also recently directed a 30-second animated TVC for Crown Casino, Melbourne, via agency Clemenger BBDO. Working alongside Los Angeles based director and animator Carlos Florez, the spot titled ‘Crown Carnivale’ promotes the Casino’s latest entertainment and prizes on offer, and saw Garon designing posters and animating motion graphics.

“The ’Crown Carnivale’ spot was a challenge and a joy to work on,” says Garon. “Clemenger BBDO and the client gave us a tremendous amount of creative freedom and we are completely thrilled with the results. That being said, compositing thirty separate 5K Red Epic files in one continuous take is an experience I'm in no hurry to repeat.”
