Dirtgirlworld’s Award Buzz

Press release from TM Publicity

Just a week after news of a major sale to US children’s channel Sprout, the team behind the new Australian children’s show dirtgirlworld is celebrating Logie Award and international Prix Jeunesse nominations.

AND , after just three weeks in the coveted 8am time slot on ABC 1, dirtgirlworld has secured a regular spot in the Top 50 rating shows of the week.

dirtgirlworld is a contemporary, vibrant, eco-friendly series that was designed to introduce preschoolers to the joys of outdoor play and sustainable, green living. dirtgirl – Australia’s newest international television star – is a gumboot-wearing girl who grows awesome tomatoes, knows cloud names and drives a big orange tractor.

dirtgirlworld co-creator Cate McQuillen is over the moon: “When Hewey Eustace and I first dreamed up the dirtgirlworld concept we were completely new to the world of television production, but we knew in our hearts that we had a great idea.

“It seemed to us that the time was right for a mainstream program for children with an environmental message – a program that encourages audiences to explore the natural world by going outside and ‘getting grubby’ with dirtgirl. We’re thrilled that broadcasters and audiences seem to agree!”

dirtgirlworld is currently screening in Australia on ABC 1 and ABC 2, in Britain on C Beebies and BBC 1, on the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and launches in the US on Sprout on Earth Day 2010 – April 22.

The Prix Jeunesse is one of the world’s most coveted awards for children’s television. The Awards and Festival are held every two years in Bavaria, Germany, with the aim of promoting quality in television for the young worldwide.

Sprout is the first 24-hour preschool destination available on US TV, on demand and online for kids ages 2-5 and their parents and caregivers.

“Sprout’s Dig Into Earth Day with dirtgirlworld” marathon will air on Sprout Earth Day, Thursday, April 22.

The dirtgirlworld team is committed to pursuing the best possible environmental business practices to reduce dirtgirlworld’s eco-footprint. A percentage of production costs have already been reserved to establish the dirtgirlworld foundation, which will be added to partners’ carbon offsetting contributions to fund local projects that support children to live more environmentally sustainable lives.
