Distribution workshop: exploiting content online

Screen Australia will host a one-day workshop for film practitioners working in the distribution space looking to exploit their content online.

The workshop will be led by New Zealand-based digital distribution pioneer David White, founder of independent Video-on-Demand platform IndieReign and the recently launched film technology company Shift72.

The event will help local rights holders understand the challenges and opportunities presented by the increased appetite for Australian VOD and online subscription services in a non-exclusive digital marketplace.

Five teams with the means to exploit the Australian online rights to their content will be selected to participate. Preference will be given to feature film projects.

The workshop will focus on audience building, digital promotion and sales of individual projects that are well-suited to the online environment. We welcome content owners with back catalogues, however you must identify a single project for the workshop.

It will also provide digital strategy development and VOD platform design for each team, with five follow-up consultation sessions provided by Shift72 to help build momentum and launch the selected projects.

Preference will be given to teams with a proven track record creating online buzz, and experience building audiences, fan-bases or networks. Projects with recently generated excitement and exposure from theatrical releases, festival honours or other media coverage are also encouraged to apply.

This initiative presents an opportunity to experiment with audience identification and engagement strategies, consumer behaviour, marketing plans and online sales.

The workshop will take place on Friday December 4 in Sydney. In addition, hite will do a 90 minute presentation that will broadly cover the current state of play for digital rights holders looking to exploit their content in a global online marketplace.

The presentation will take be held on Thursday  December 3 in Sydney.
