DOP Peter James honoured at AFI Industry Awards

The L’Oréal Paris AFI Industry Awards presented by Digital Pictures were held on Friday December 5, at Melbourne’s Princess Theatre. In a year which celebrates 50 Years of the AFI Awards, over 700 members of the Australian film and television industry attended the event, which was hosted by Julia Zemiro.

The L’Oréal Paris AFI Industry Awards recognise the talent and innovation of artists working behind the camera and behind the scenes in the Australian film and television industry.  The night celebrates excellence and achievement across feature film, non-feature and television categories.

Winners in the AFI Feature Film Industry Awards categories include Unfinished Sky for Best Cinematography, Best Sound and Best Original Music Score; The Black Balloon for Best Editing; The Tender Hook for Best Costume Design and Death Defying Acts for Best Production Design.

The AFI Raymond Longford Award was presented to one of the world’s leading nature documentary makers Dione Gilmour. This award is reserved for an individual that has demonstrated an unwavering commitment over many years to excellence in the film and television industries and has through their body of work, contributed to the enrichment of Australian culture.

Acclaimed cinematographer Peter James ACS, ASC was honoured with the AFI International Award for Excellence in Filmmaking. This is a career-based award recognising the work of Australians in film and television produced internationally.

The AFI Industry Awards in the television category saw Blue Water High win Best Children’s Television Drama and ENOUGH ROPE with Andrew Denton take the honour for Best Light Entertainment Television Series. The AFI Award for Outstanding Achievement in Television Screen Craft was awarded to Steve Evans for Editing on Underbelly.
