Dungog launches acting intiative

Press release from Identity PR

Dungog Film Festival has been supporting student education and budding filmmakers since its inception in 2007. In 2010, the Festival program will feature two exciting new initiatives to inspire students and upcoming film talent.

Dungog has just launched Screenwise Speed Auditioning, a new highlight to the program that will provide a platform for promising acting talent to showcase their skills. Each entrant will perform a two-minute monologue. The ten best performers will then be invited to participate in the finale at the Dungog Film Festival.

"Screenwise is proud to partner with the Dungog Film Festival in its search for great Australian acting talent. Screenwise Speed Auditioning is a first of its kind, and will provide boundless opportunities for actors to be seen and ultimately discovered,” Said Denise Roberts, CEO and Principal Director of Screenwise.

The lucky finalists will be provided a two-minute script to be performed and recorded. Their performance will then be played to a panel of prestigious industry practitioners for judging. The inaugural winner of this competition will win a $5000 cash prize, exclusive representation for an 18-month period and an ‘Acting for the Screen’ workshop with Screenwise.

To celebrate the International Year of Youth, Dungog will also introduce an interactive Student Program, partnering with Australia’s leading film industry institutions Australian Film, Television and Radio School (AFTRS), the Australian Director’s Guild (ADG) and the National Film and Sound Archive (NFSA).

“With the support of our film industry partners, we are committed to providing unique educational opportunities to film students across rural NSW. Our new Student Program will provide high quality educational workshops that explore Australian cinema and filmmaking techniques, “ said Allanah Zitserman, Dungog Film Festival director.

The Student Program will feature an ADG workshop on digital filmmaking and the importance of good story telling, an AFTRS program on production and costume design for film and an NFSA presentation of a great Aussie classic film.
