Dustin Clare, Kate Jenkinson and Robyn Nevin join ‘Doctor Doctor’

Tina Bursill and Rodger Corser.

Dustin Clare, Kate Jenkinson and Robyn Nevin are the new additions to the cast of season 4 of the Nine Network’s Doctor Doctor, which started production in Sydney today.

Clare (Rosehaven, Glitch, Tidelands) plays Jarred, the manager of a mining company who is the new beau of Dr Penny (Hayley McElhinney).

Jenkinson (Five Bedrooms, Wentworth, Offspring) is Tara, a new medical intern at the Whyhope clinic who is on probation for reasons yet to be revealed. A wild spirit, she could lead Dr Hugh Knight (Rodger Corser) back to his bad boy past.

Nevin (Upper Middle Bogan, Back in Very Small Business) is Diana, the American mother of Hugh’s deceased former partner Harriet. Diana comes to Oz as a mother-in-law from hell because she believes Knight is unfit to look after his infant daughter Eliza.

Among the returning cast are Nicole da Silva (Charlie), Ryan Johnson (Matt), Tina Bursill (Meryl), Matt Castley (Ajax), Chloe Bayliss (Hayley), Belinda Bromilow (Betty), Charles Wu (Ken) and Miranda Tapsell (April). Kirsty McGregor is the casting director.

After serving out his probation and saving the family farm, in this season Hugh faces the fight of his life – for love, career and family.

Keith Thompson has succeeded Tony McNamara (now occupied on the Hulu series The Great) as script producer. The writing team includes Liz Doran, Timothy Lee, Angela McDonald, Katherine Thomson and Gretel Vella plus fresh voices Tilly Gupta and Josh Mapleston.

Easy Tiger’s Ian Collie, who co-created the show with McNamara, produces with Ally Henville, who graduates from line producer, and Corser, who steps up from associate producer.

The directors are Geoffrey Bennett, who will also oversee Julietta Boscolo as she shadow directs one episode on an Australian Directors’ Guild attachment, Kriv Stenders, Erin White and Lisa Matthews, who helmed one ep last year as an ADG attachment.

The international distributor Fremantle has sold the show retitled The Heart Guy to UKTV, the UK’s biggest multi-channel network, German pay TV broadcaster Sky Deutschland and North America’s Acorn TV.

Boscolo’s Let’s See How Fast this Baby Will Go is among seven films that will screen at the American Pavilion’s showcase of short films from emerging filmmakers at the Cannes Film Festival and earlier this month she embarked on a Hollywood field trip sponsored by the ADG Metro Screen Open Fellowship.
