Entries open for $90,000 short film fund

Applications are now open for the 2015 round of the Emerging Filmmakers Fund (EFF): the pre-eminent fund for short film production in NSW.

Metro Screen, with support from Screen NSW, is looking for compelling stories from the best emerging filmmakers in NSW.

Three teams will be provided with up to $30,000 cash to complete their projects. Projects can be narrative, documentary, animation, experimental, multiplatform or webisodes, and must be a maximum of 15 minutes in length.

"The Emerging Filmmaker Fund has, over the past decade, identified and supported some of NSW's most exciting young filmmakers, putting them on the important first step of a professional career. The short films created under the Fund have screened at major film festivals around the world, won dozens of film prizes and have been powerful calling cards for the filmmakers who've made them. I'm looking forward to seeing the films made by these three new filmmaking teams," Maureen Barron, the Chief Executive of Screen NSW said.

Metro Screen is pleased to confirm that Causeway Films will continue in the role of EFF Executive Producer for the 2015 round. Causeway Films is a partnership between Kristina Ceyton, who produced The Babadook (selected for Sundance 2014) and The Ground Beneath (short-listed for the Academy Awards and winner of the Rouben Mamoulian Dendy Award), and respected developer Sam Jennings whose short film Deluge won the Grand Jury Prix at Clermont-Ferrand.

Sam Jennings of Causeway Films stated; “We are really excited to be EP-ing EFF again this year, this time in partnership with Metro Screen. Having just seen that all three EFF films from last year have had their world premieres over the last week, one in competition at Cannes, we couldn’t be more aware of how important it is to find and grow exceptional talent through short filmmaking and to introduce new Australian voices to the world stage.”

Targeted at emerging writer/director/producer teams with a strong short form project, the EFF has a proven track record of supporting films and filmmakers who go on to have great success in their screen careers.

Recent EFF short film The Guests (writer/director Shane Danielsen, producers Vanessa Humphrey & Raquelle David) was selected for official competition at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, as one of only nine films out of 4,550 short films submitted from over 100 countries.

Metro Screen is proud to continue to support the career development of emerging talent in the local screen industry.

Applications for EFF are now open and will close at COB on Friday July 31.
