Essential Media’s Voyage To The Planets wins best TV series at Scinema Awards

Sydney-based production company Essential Media and Entertainment, has won Best Television Series with Voyage to the Planets, at the 2011 Scinema Awards held last Friday in Adelaide, from a field of entries from more than 30 countries.

Series produced by Dr Richard Smith and executive produced by Chris Hilton, Voyage to the Planets is an epic CGI-driven space traveller’s guide to exploring the pleasures and pitfalls of visiting the alien planets of our Solar System.

The SCINEMA Jury described Voyage to the Planets as, "a visionary production exploring our closest neighbours, from a world leader in innovative and engaging factual filmmaking."

Essential Media also won Best Television Series last year with Whatever! The Science of Teenagers and Best Film for How Kevin Bacon Cured Cancer. Essential is currently producing the Richard Smith presented Australia: Land Before Time, a landmark series showcasing the deep, rich geological history of the Australian continent for the ABC, UKTV and National Geographic.

This month sees the start of the second series of the successful Essential Media produced Gourmet Farmer on SBS, while other current productions include the ABC TV drama series Jack Irish and a second series of the roguishly funny drama series Rake 2 for the ABC and Sundance Channel.
