Event screening of Newsfront

Australian Revelations is a celebration of Australian film through a year-round, ongoing series of screenings and the celebrated Australian film Newsfront will headline the next event on Tuesday 28 April.

Released in 1978, this Phillip Noyce directed classic tells the story of a changing media landscape – a theme that seems to still resonate within the news gathering industry today.

“Newsfront is still the greatest Australian film,” says The West Australian Newspaper’s Film Editor, Mark Naglazas, “a vivid, beautifully crafted period drama that tells the story of the transition from newsreels to television at the same time as documenting a tempestuous period in Australian history. It is also the most memorable cinematic celebration of the Australian character, with Bill Hunter’s devoted, down-to-earth, unfalteringly loyal veteran cameraman Len Maguire the equal of Max Rockatansky (aka Mad Max) and Crocodile Dundee in our pantheon of cinematic heroes.”

Each Australian Revelations feature screening will be accompanied by a Western Australian made short film, providing opportunities for local filmmakers to have their work seen by new audiences. April's short film will be Tango Underpants, directed and Miranda Edmonds and Khrob Edmonds.

Australian Revelations will screen at the new The Backlot Perth facility in West Perth and tickets are available via trybooking.com at http://www.trybooking.com/HKAO
