Fetch TV launches download-to-own

Fetch TV today announced it's the first pay TV provider in Australia to offer subscribers the option to purchase their favourite TV shows and the latest movies.

Fetch TV subscribers can now download-to-own TV shows from leading content providers such as HBO, 20th Century Fox, Roadshow Entertainment, Disney, Entertainment One, Warner Bros., Lionsgate, ABC Commercial and Viacom International Media Works.

The new TV Store will feature titles including Game of Thrones, Veep, True Detective, Entourage, and True Blood from HBO, Wonderland, Empire, The Walking Dead, Broadchurch, Sons of Anarchy and Nashville.

“Fetch TV is committed to providing access to the very best in premium content,” said CEO Scott Lorson. “Subscribers can now purchase entire seasons of the most popular TV shows including the latest season of Game of Thrones.”

“There are many avid viewers and fans of HBO series in Australia,” said Sofia Chang, EVP, Worldwide Digital Distribution and Home Entertainment, HBO. “We are delighted to partner with Fetch TV to offer their customers the ability to download and keep their favourite HBO shows”.

Fetch TV will support the launch of the TV Store with a major outdoor campaign featuring season 5 of Game of Thrones.

From today, Fetch TV subscribers are also able to purchase, as well as rent, movies from its extensive library of over 4,000 titles from 15 studios. Many new release titles will be available for purchase on Fetch TV two or more weeks before their DVD release dates.

Lorson continued, “Australians love their movie collections, and we are now seeing a rapid shift in preference from physical to digital ownership, as consumers embrace the convenience, early windowing, attractive pricing and multi-device viewing options.”

TV shows and movies can be viewed via the Fetch TV box, with purchases also available to stream to smartphones and tablets via the Fetch TV app. Pricing for TV shows will be $2.99 (SD) and $3.49 (HD) per episode, with discounts available for the purchase of full seasons. Movie pricing will vary by title.

“Fetch TV is enjoying record subscriber growth on the back of a series of bold content initiatives," Lorson said. "In February, we introduced nine more leading channels including the highly acclaimed BBC First. The launch of Netflix in March has proven wildly successful, and we are expecting another very strong response to the popular TV shows and movies now available for purchase on Fetch TV.”
