Flickerfest announces Australian program

Coming of age and celebrating 21 years of short film excellence, FLICKERFEST presented by ING DIRECT inches closer to the much-anticipated start of the festival and announces its Australian films officially selected in competition for 2102.

This year an unprecedented number of entries were received and from over 2200 entries 45 films have been chosen to fly the green and gold flag representing the most innovative, creative and cutting edge short films that Australia has to offer.

For many films, the FLICKERFEST festival will serve as their world and/or Australian premier and the competition will showcase the talents of some of the best local filmmakers and acting talent including Barry Otto, Anne Louise Lambert, Gary Sweet, Josh Lawson, Nash Edgerton and David Michod, with over 14 world and 12 Australian premieres featuring across the competition. Other films have already taken home some seriously prestigious prizes – the calibre of this year’s Australian program is undeniable with several films screening at some of the world’s most prominent and revered film festivals including, Telluride, Palm Springs, Las Vegas, Amsterdam, Annecy, Seattle, Busan International, NYC International, Los Angeles International and Cannes.

FLICKERFEST’s Festival Director BRONWYN KIDD has been blown away by this year’s Australian program: “ It’s fantastic to discover and celebrate such great Australian short film making talent in the festival again this year, Flickerfest is proud to be a platform for bold compelling stories told by fresh new story tellers with new perspectives on cinema and the telling of Australian stories on the screen. We look forward to sharing these amazing stories with audiences both over our ten day festival in Bondi and across Australia on our 37 venue national tour.”

FLICKERFEST presented by ING DIRECT is Australia’s only Academy®™ accredited and BAFTA recognised short film festival and kicks off the summer cinema season under the stars at Bondi Beach, screening the best short films from Australia and the world in the chilled and iconic location of the Bondi Pavilion from Friday 6th January to Sunday 15th January. It will go on to tour over 37 venues nationally from January through to May 2012.
