Flickerfest now recognised by BAFTA

Flickerfest, is thrilled to further broaden its international profile through becoming Australia’s only BAFTA recognised short film festival. The British Academy Of Film and Television Arts Short Film award is the most prestigious prize for short film talent from the UK and Flickerfest is honoured to be recognised for the purposes of eligibility for the Short Film Award in 2010/11.

This honour compliments our status as the only Academy® Award accredited Short Film festival, in Australia and its largest short film competition. Flickerfest is now accepting entries from Australia and around the world, from JULY 1st, for the 2011 Festival, celebrating 20 years of the best short films from around the world. Flickerfest will screen for 10 days at Bondi Beach from the 7th til the 16th January 2011 before heading off on a national tour.

For 2011, the Festival is pleased to announce two new competitions FlickerUp – for films from primary and secondary school students or filmmakers under 18 years, in Australia, which will encourage and support a whole new generation of Australian film making talent and GreenFlicks – celebrating Flickerfest’s passion and commitment to a green festival and showcasing films from around the world with an environmental focus or theme.

These competitions join our other prestigious competitions of the Best of the Worlds and Australia’s short films including-
International
Australian
Documentary

as well as a number of special showcases and forums out of competition.

The FLICKERFEST International Competition is open to any short film available for screening on 35mm. The Australian, Documentary and GreenFlicks Competitions are open to any short film available for screening on 35mm or Betacam video. The FlickerUp school students competition is open to films screening on any format.

An international jury will award the following prestigious awards and prizes:

The Coopers Award for Best Short Film (Academy® Accredited)
Yoram Gross Award For Best Animation Short Film (Academy® Accredited)
Flickerfest Award for Best Australian Short Film
National Geographic Award for Best Short Documentary Film
Icebergs Dining Room and Bar Award for Best Direction in an Australian short film plus a host of other Awards and Industry prizes.
