Flickerfest on Movie Extra Premieres Soon

Press release from Flickerfest

2010 will see the return of Flickerfest on Extra, the original series created through the partnership of MOVIE EXTRA and Academy® Award accredited film festival Flickerfest. This second season will feature more stars, more films and more passion for short filmmaking!

Short film enthusiast, actor & director, Damian Walshe-Howling (Customs, Underbelly) returns to host this seven part series premiering exclusively on MOVIE EXTRA on Friday, 16th April at 10:30pm.

Damian will take us behind-the-scenes once again to discover what it takes to conquer the art of short filmmaking and talks to high profile stars who have delved into this form. Deborra-lee Furness talks to us about her short film Standing Room Only starring Hugh Jackman whilst another celebrity couple Andrew Upton and Cate Blanchett team up for their short film Bangers. Acclaimed actor and comedian Paul McDermott’s award-winning writing and directing is highlighted in his short The Girl Who Swallowed Bees and Cannes Camera D’or winning filmmaker Warwick Thornton (Samson and Delilah) gives us the background to his work in the short Nana.

Flickerfest On Extra will feature a selection of both new and classic, award-winning highlights from Flickerfest. Across the series, episodes will include Award-winning Australian short films, interviews from the filmmakers plus in-depth discussion with some of the biggest names in the business including multi-award-winning Australian director Bruce Beresford.

You’ll also get exclusive access into the judging process as Flickerfest on Extra goes where cameras have previously feared to tread! How does a jury decide which film wins at a festival? Is there pressure, when you know that your choice could go on to win an Oscar®

Come with us behind-the-scenes of the drama as the jury battle it out to award their favourite films at Flickerfest 2010. Meet the international jury, including director Andrew Lancaster (Accidents Happen) AFI-winning actor Roy Billing, Mexican Festival director Sarah Hoch and the Australian Jury: actor Dan Wyllie, award-winning shorts producer Nicole O’Donohue, production executive of Hopscotch Films Rachel Okine and award-winning indigenous director Darlene Johnston. Some strong opinions about short film and even stronger personalities will keep you glued to your seat.
