Flickerfest visits Byron this weekend

After a highly successful 10 day festival in Sydney with capacity crowds Flickerfest Australia’s leading short film festival will hit the road this weekend on its 37 venue national tour with its first stop this weekend in the Byron Bay region at the A and I Hall Bangalow, from the 20th -22nd of January (for its 14th year) hosted by local organisors IQ Arts and Eco Centre http://www.iq.org.au

Flickerfest Bangalow will be screening an entertaining, inspiring and award winning range of festival, highlights giving local Flickerfest audiences the first look at the hottest short films in the world today. For many films, the FLICKERFEST festival will serve as their world and/or Australian premiere whilst other films have already taken home some seriously prestigious prizes – the calibre of this year’s Australian program is undeniable with several films screening at some of the world’s most prominent and revered film festivals including Sundance and Cannes.

Highlights of Flickerfests Byron Programme also include many award winners from Flickerfest Sydney including The Movie Network Best Australian Short Winner ‘The Palace’, ING DIRECT Award winner For Best Short Film ‘Ebony Society’ (NZ), ‘Bear’ by Nash Edgerton, Winner of The Icebergs Dining Room and Bar Award For Best direction In An Australian short film’ plus two short films recently shortlisted for the 2012 Academy®Awards, the moving and humorous ‘I Could Be Your Grandmother’ from France and the intimate and heartfelt drama ‘Raju’ from Germany following a couples journey to India to collect their adopted child.

In a new addition to this years festival programme Flickerfest is also thrilled to that Flickerlab an intensive workshop designed to further support the sustainability of our local film industry will be presented in Byron Bay. Flickerlab will present the latest trends, tips and skills that filmmakers need to develop their creative idea and turn it into a reality and to successfully take their project to market both in Australia and internationally. Flickerlab Byron will be the only other presentation of this workshop outside Sydney bringing together key industry practitioners with the local industry. Panelists include: Emma Moroney, Former supervising Producer from Movie Network Channel. Emma is most recently responsible for acquisitions and management across Movie EXTRA Webfest, Bronwyn Kidd, Documentary maker and Flickerfest Director, Kathleen Drumm who helms Screen Australia’s diverse marketing activities across theatrical and innovative distribution, Nerida Moore Screen NSW’s Senior Development and Production Executive and Lisa Shaunessy independent producer, formerly the Creative Executive at Hugh Jackman’s Seed Productions.
