Foxtel launches no-contract, internet-delivered TV service, Foxtel Play

Pay-TV provider Foxtel has launched an internet-delivered TV service which will be made available across a range of computers, TVs and games consoles.

Foxtel Play will have no lock-in contracts and allow customers to build their own entertainment service from a range of genre-based channel packages starting from $25 per month. The service begins in June.

Foxtel chief executive Richard Freudenstein said: “Foxtel Play develops our 'off the box' internet-TV products by expanding on the existing Foxtel on Xbox 360 and Foxtel on Internet TV services to provide one Foxtel internet TV offering across multiple devices."

The market for online content is becoming increasingly competitive as the National Broadband Network is rolled out. At June 2012, there were nine IPTV providers in the Australian market, the majority offering content from Foxtel and Fetch TV, according to ACMA.
