FTI announce the return of the Western Australian Screen Awards

The WA Screen Awards are back after a year-long hiatus.

The Western Australian Film and Television Institute (FTI) today announced the return of the Awards after they were put on hold in late 2011.

FTI CEO Paul Bodlovich says,“…it is our intent through the structure of this year’s awards to recognise excellence and achievement across the sector as broadly and as genuinely as possible”.

Changes included a new, broader definition of “short form” and “long form” productions with most categories being allocated an award for each.

The 2013 Awards will see 34 categories, to be announced next week, and include the new additions of “Best Game” and “Best Interactive Narrative”.

The FTI will be accepting entries from Monday April 29 and confirmed productions delivered between January 1, 2011 and March 31, 2013 will be eligible.

A date for the gala WA Screen Awards Night has been confirmed for Monday July 8, as part of a new partnership with the Revelation Film Festival Program.

The WASA’s have also announced a new partnership with CinefestOz, which will see the winning short films of WASA offered a place Cinefest’s new short film program in August.

Full details of submission requirements will be released in coming weeks.

  1. What an interesting group these WASA people are. Imagine, we payed for our 35 minute film Dark Matter to be judged in the best actress category. We posted the film via a private youtube url for judgement. Following the announcement of finalists we checked google analytics – The film had been watched by judges for less than three minutes by one person, less than 20 seconds by another and under 5 seconds by another. The actress who’s work was incredible doesn’t begin until 4 minutes into film. How these WASA people managed to fairly judge the film we have no idea. When we jumped on to the forum associated with WASA and asked other film makers to check their analytics, The Film and Television Institute here in Western Australia, censored my post by removing it and blocking my access to make comments. Never the less we received response from fellow competition prior to being censored that other entrants had received similar treatment. When we asked for a refund we were told to P off basically.
When we made complaint to government here in WA they couldn’t give a F. No one cares. What a joke.
