Honour for Last Impresario Michael White

Theatre impresario Michael White received a special award at the 2014 Laurence Olivier Awards in London on Sunday.

White is profiled in Grace Otto’s theatrical documentary The Last Impresario, which will be released in Australian cinemas later this year.

In a career spanning 50 years, White has produced 101 stage productions and 27 films, including The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

"I am over the moon with excitement and emotion that the amazing Michael White, The Last Impresario himself, received an Olivier Lifetime Achievement Award last night in London, “ Gracie said.

“I am absolutely thrilled for him as this award is so hugely deserved and has really been a long time coming. He had been recovering from a severe bout of pneumonia but, in another example of his indomitable spirit, nothing could stop him from turning up to receive this honour. It's so timely we can share his film and showcase some of his achievements later this year. I'm so proud to have had the opportunity to work with him.

“He was presented with the award by Nigel Planer, one of the many comic actors whose work he supported in his early days, and the incomparable Kate Moss, a great friend with whom he shares a birthday, and hopefully many more celebrations to come."
