Host named for WASAs

FTI is pleased to announce that comedian Joel Creasey will host the 27th West Australian Screen Awards (WASAs).

The sell-out comedian, originally from Perth, expressed his enthusiasm of returning to his hometown to host the highly anticipated event:

"I'm so excited to return home to host the WA Screen Awards. I'm going to approach hosting the night in the way Meryl Streep approaches an acceptance speech – confident, breathy and a little smug… I'll obviously be bringing my headshot and CV in the hope of snagging a role too!"

Australia’s “Acid Tongue Prince”, Creasey has recently completed a stellar season of his sold out show The Hurricane across Australia in 2015. Having burst onto the scene at the tender age of 19, he is now one of the best known, hottest and most sought-after comedians in Australia – and he’s still only 24 years old!

Creating controversy yet winning legions of new fans wherever he goes, in only a short time Joel has built a huge following that is rapidly growing both nationally and internationally. Fans everywhere are falling in love with his intelligent observations, acerbic style, pop-culture expertise and unrivalled story telling abilities.

A seasoned host and entertainer, Creasey expressed his excitement at helping WA filmmakers celebrate their hard work: "Western Australians are brilliant, creative people and I can't wait to be part of a night honouring their work. I might even spray paint my entire body gold so I look like an Oscar."

The 27th WASAs will be held on Monday June 29 at the Heath Ledger Theatre at the State Theatre Centre of Western Australia.

The 2015 red carpet event will feature VIP guests, delicious canapés and premium beverages. Over 500 film industry leaders, Western Australian screen practitioners, media, sponsors and industry partners will come together to celebrate the very best in West Australian screen production.

The WASAs is the premier celebration of West Australian screen culture, celebrating excellence and achievements in feature film, short film, web series, music videos, television production, documentary and games.

The WASAs are an FTI initiative held to enhance the vibrancy of the WA screen sector through increasing awareness of WA screen arts and connecting screen practitioners of all disciplines and career stages.

The awards are supported by major partners ScreenWest and Lotterywest and presented in conjunction with the Revelation Perth International Film Festival (July 2-12).
