Hunt for the Wilderpeople’s Taika Waititi in conversation at Sydney’s Chauvel

Hunt for the Wilderpeople writer and director Taika Waititi (Boy, What We Do in the Shadows) will appear in conversation at a screening of the film at Sydney's Chauvel Cinema on May 23.

Based on Barry Crump's bestselling novel of the same name, Hunt for the Wilderpeople has already become a monster hit in its native New Zealand, and Madman is no doubt hoping for more of the same when it opens the film in Australia on May 26.

The film stars Julian Dennison as Ricky, a rebellious city kid who finds himself on the run with his cantankerous foster uncle (Sam Neill) in the New Zealand bush.

A national manhunt ensues, and the two are forced to put aside their differences and work together to survive.

Waititi's latest premiered at Sundance to raves, and its director is now helming the latest Thor installment in Queensland.

He'll be joined at the Chauvel by his leading man Dennison.
