Jameson competition winners a hit at Flickerfest

Press release from Cav Con

Jameson Irish Whiskey’s successful standing in film has been further strengthened with the announcement that two of the winning films from the most recent John Jameson Productions (JJP) Scriptwriting Competition have been selected for this year’s ‘Flickerfest’ program, which commences it’s national tour this week beginning in Byron Bay, NSW.

This year’s chosen JJP films – including The Seamstress by Kate Schmitt and Everything is Super by Shannon Browning – boasted some of Australia’s finest acting talent including the much-loved Barry Otto, and widely popular Gyton Grantley.

Significantly, the films also saw the acting debuts of model turned actress, Mink Sadowsky and Russian-born model Miro Kubicek, both performances scoring high praise and recognition amongst the opening night audience which included many industry professionals.

The John Jameson Productions (JJP) Scriptwriting Competition is an ‘open brief’ initiative which champions aspiring screenwriters, and is a unique film competition in this respect.

Following the review of over 900 entries in mid 2010, the competition process eventually saw three chosen finalists’ scripts come to realisation with the assistance of a supporting budget of $20,000 per film, and with a professional film production unit applied to oversee each production via leading film company, Chaotic Pictures.

Now in its 20th year, Flickerfest continues to showcase the best short films from Australia and the world, with the program touring over 20 other venues around the country following its annual Bondi Beach season.

This is the first time two of the three winning JJP films have made the cut for the highly acclaimed Flickerfest program, Australia’s only academy and BAFTA accredited short film festival.

“Jameson Irish Whiskey has been a long standing supporter of the film industry and has been a key sponsor of over 20 major international film festivals, including local initiatives such as ‘TropFest’ and ‘Adelaide Shorts’ just to name a few,” said Erin James, Brand Manager, Jameson Irish Whiskey.

“This is Jameson’s 4th year as a sponsor partner of Flickerfest, so we couldn’t be more proud to see two of the JJP films alongside some of the best in the country and from around the world."

All three winning films from the 2010 JJP Scriptwriting Competition can also be viewed online via the dedicated JJP website, www.johnjamesonproductions.com.au.
