Kodak-Sponsored Panel at Tribeca

Press release from Kodak Entertainment

Eastman Kodak Company, an official Industry Sponsor of the 2009 Tribeca Film Festival, will again play a prominent role at the event as the host of a discussion among some of today’s leading directors and cinematographers about why they choose film. Kodak will serve as the host of Tribeca Talk: A Matter of Choice, a panel taking place on April 30 that will focus on how film allows filmmakers to achieve their creative vision.

Panel participants include: Tribeca Film Festival ’09 filmmakers Damien Chazelle (Guy and Madeline on a Park Bench), Julio DePietro (The Good Guy), and Bette Gordon (Handsome Harry, Variety); and cinematographers Stuart Dryburgh (Oscar®-nominated for The Piano) and Fred Elmes (Blue Velvet, The Ice Storm), and producer and former Tribeca juror Christine Vachon (Killer Films). The panel will be moderated by American Cinematographer’s Patricia Thomson.

“We’re honored to have such preeminent industry professionals speaking about the value of film at such an important event,” said Peter Boyce, General Manager of Kodak’s motion picture business in North and South America. “It’s really all about the image and how that image will draw audiences into the story. Whether they’re using 35mm or Super 16mm, filmmakers have a certain aesthetic in mind when they choose to shoot on film.

“Film continues to hold a unique space in the motion picture workflow, remaining the medium of choice,” continued Boyce. “Film’s artistic and archival qualities differentiate it from all other image capture technologies. Talented Press Release filmmakers always have another story to tell, another movie to make. With Kodak film, they can tell their next story – make their next movie — without compromise.”

The Tribeca Film Festival was founded in 2001 by Jane Rosenthal, Craig Hatkoff, and Robert DeNiro following the attacks on the World Trade Center. The festival is designed to spur the economic and cultural revitalization of Manhattan through a celebration of film, music and culture.

Tribeca is well known for being a diverse international film festival that supports emerging and established directors. The Festival has screened over 1100 films from over 80 countries since its first festival in 2002. Since its founding, it has attracted an international audience of more than two million attendees and has generated over $530 million in economic activity for New York City.

Sponsors play an integral role by supporting the Festival’s infrastructure, enhancing the Festivalgoer’s experience, and making possible many of the services provided to filmmakers during the Festival. Now in its eighth year, the Tribeca Film Festival runs from April 22 – May 3, 2009.
