Kojo’s Global Sneeze takes silver

Press release from KojoGroup

Locally produced antiflu advertisement campaign featuring sneezes in slow motion has been viewed all around the world, creating acknowledgement and praise for its Adelaide based creators. Kojo Group’s Spirit Films produced an advertisement that boasts more than 500,000 YouTube views across different versions of the advertisement and over 1.2 million views on online entertainment site break.com.

The initial television campaign urging people to get their flu vaccination dominated the screens as well as unexpectedly saturating online media. To date, the advertisement has screened on French and UK TV networks and made top 10 TV commercial and video lists on various websites, including actor Ashton Kutcher’s Twitter page. The campaign was also
included on the BBC’s flagship current affairs programme Panorama.

The creative team at Spirit films had to shoot on a special 1000 frames per second camera to be able to capture the full effects of the sneezes. Pepper, pollen and perfume were techniques that were employed to make the actors sneeze, with the most effective being the stimulation of the nose hairs using a rolled up cone of baking paper.

The campaign’s Director Ernie Clark  said, “I attempted to make the TVC look more like a high fashion shoot than sterile visuals of people sneezing. Working with so much light for the extreme high speed(1,000 FPS) photography certainly made this difficult.”

The recognition received for the creativity and uniqueness of the campaign has resulted in a Silver plaque for the campaign’s Director, Ernie Clark ACS. This was awarded at the Australian Cinematographers Society Awards for South Australia and Western Australia which were held in Adelaide last week. “It was very satisfying and humbling to be awarded a Silver ACS award for cinematography for “Out it Flu” as it was a challenging job cinematographically,” he said.
